Great Western

Akvavit, Kina-Blanc, Orange Liqueur, lemon juice, honey syrup. This is my ‘local spirits’ take on the Great Northern, created by Jessica Gonzalez at Death & Company, NYC. The Akvavit’s caraway character harmonizes beautifully with the elderflower and bitter tones in in the Kina-Blanc. The Quadruple Sec connects the whole like arms in a hug. Corny, perhaps, but it’s the feeling I get!

Great Western

Ingredients

  • 2 oz (60 mL) Barrel Aged Akvavit / Sheringham Distillery

  • 1/2 oz (15 mL) Kina-Blanc / Esquimalt

  • 1/2 oz (15 mL) Orange Liqueur / Quadruple Sec - Sons of Vancouver

  • 3/4 oz (22 mL) Lemon Juice

  • 1/4 oz (7 mL) Honey Syrup or Agave Nectar

  • Orange zest garnish

Directions

  1. Shake over ice until chilled, strain into a ice filled rocks glass, garnish with an orange zest
