Gin, fino sherry, Kina-Blanc, Lillet and bitters. I wanted to make something featuring two new-to-me ingredients:@esquimaltwine Elderflower Quinquina Kina-Blanc and@freepourjennys Fireweed bitters. The former is in the style of classic French Kina aromatised wines with the addition of wild elderflower; the latter is a nod to my brief time living in the Yukon as a child, where fireweed abounds. This is a lovely cocktail bitter with quinine undertones (my impression) yet delicately balanced with the fireweed floral notes. These two are meant for each other and are enhanced by the gin’s botanical qualities. A wonderful aperitif!
This adaptation is fashioned after the original found in Harry Craddock’s ‘The Savoy Cocktail Book’ from 1930. Named after Lewis Carroll’s poem.
